Happy Proposal Season! This time of year lots of couples take that next big step. Is that something you or someone you know has been thinking about? Or maybe you yourself have been dropping hints like crazy, leaving Christmas jewelry ads out on the table with all the princess cuts circled. Feel free to leave this blog open on your computer 'accidentally.' I got you!

So, should you get a photographer to capture your proposal? Recently I have seen a rise in future fiancé's arranging for friends, family or5 photographers sneak along for the big moment. They hide in bushes or just out of sight so capture reactions and (hopefully) that big ‘YES!’  Frankly, I absolutely LOVE the idea! Obviously, I think you should hire me to capture this huge moment, but even if I can’t be a part of it, I think you should for sure find someone to film or take stills of this.

But why should you have a stranger tag along on one of the most intimate moments of your life? Let me tell you a little story. I got engaged in 2009 and it was a magical, wonderful moment that I had dreamed of all my life. And I don’t remember most of it. My loving future fiance had been planning something for several months, saving to have a custom ring made for me, and I was none the wiser. On the special night, we went out for a casual dinner at one of our favorite spots. $10 got you a crazy good artisan pizza and a pitcher of local beer. After dinner we took a walk around town and ended up by the train tracks, looking to put some pennies out to get flattened by a passing train. We waited a while, but none came. So my eagle eyed husband-to-be found some already flat over in the gravel. Or so he said, when I turned around, he was down on one knee. And that’s pretty much when I lost my danged mind. He said some sweet things I’m sure. Maybe asked me a question. I completely stopped listening and just started shouting ‘YES!” over everything he said. I think he put a ring on it, because I have one on now as I write this, but I couldn’t say for sure. We do have one picture, taken later that night when we got back home. I had to go deep into the way-back machine to find it - P.S. I can still remember my MySpace login, but have no idea where I left my keys. It’s a selfie, taken on my previously mentioned Cool Pix.

I wish I had a photo of that sweet boy I fell in love with down on one knee. The look on my face when I realized what was happening. The look on his when I kept interrupting him. I wasn’t dressed up. My makeup wasn’t done. My nails were a mess. But I wasn’t looking for some magical, Instagram worthy moment (although that would have been nice as well), I just wish I had something to remember that moment when we are old and wrinkled (or oldER, I should say). I wish I could frame it and show it to my kids and grandkids.

So trust me, while you are picking the perfect ring and working on your speech, remember to reach out to me to capture the moment. I can even help you with some amazing proposal ideas and locations.

And if you happen to already be engaged, Congrats! And don't forget to submit your proposal story before Valentine's Day for a chance to win a free couples session! Message me or send it to my email, austintwickes@gmail.com

I have no memory of taking this photo! It was all such a blur.

Bling photos are some of my favorite details to capture on the big day.
