My first family session of 2022 was extra special as I got to head out to a favorite spot with some of my favorite people. John and Maria asked me to do some special family photos as her parents were in town visiting from Michigan and I just jumped at the chance.

I met John back in college in Montana. We drifted apart over the years, but when we moved to Colorado in 2015 he was the only person in the entire state we knew, so he offered us some transplant friendly tips. Their kids are about the same age as ours, and when I met his wife Maria, she was so cool that I was instantly on a mission to make her my new best friend. Well, it worked!

Photographing close friends can be a bit intimidating, as they know you so well, but have maybe never seen 'work you.' It's a lot like mixing your social groups, who knows what can happen! But, we quickly settled into a comfortable zone and we had a really fun time Especially Bevan. Oh, Bevan. This kid is basically the human embodiment of 'looks like trouble' and I am powerless around him. I simply cant say 'no' to that face! We engaged in some playful negotiations, trading some silly faces and spit bubble photos for handsome smiles. I think it worked out pretty well for me.

I hope Maria's parents enjoy their beautiful souvenirs from their trip to Colorado. What a great way to celebrate their time together and preserve those memories.

On the calendar this week: editing, editing and editing! If you need me, I'll be an editing potato wrapped in blankets.
